DVBIC is a part of the US Military Health System. Specifically, DVBIC is the traumatic
brain injury center of excellence for the Defense Health Agency. Founded in 1992
by Congress, DVBIC's responsibilities have grown as its network of care and treatment sites has grown.
HCE fosters and promotes the prevention, diagnosis, mitigation, treatment, rehabilitation, and research of hearing loss
and auditory injury. The goal is to reduce the tangible and intangible costs of hearing loss and auditory injuries among
US military personnel and Veterans. HCE works with the VA and leads the cooperative effort to meet its goal.
PHCoE is uniquely positioned to collaborate across the DoD, VA, and other federal agencies to provide leadership and expertise,
inform policy, and drive improvements in psychological health outcomes. The center maintains five core strategic priorities:

The CNRM mission is to bring together the resources and expertise of investigators from the DoD and National Institutes of Health (NIH) to catalyze innovative research on TBI to more effectively diagnose and treat Warfighter injuries and prevent long-term consequences resulting from TBI.
The Chronic Effects of Neurotrauma Consortium (CENC) is a multi-center collaboration linking premier basic science, translational, and clinical neuroscience researchers from the DoD, VA, academic universities, and private research institutes to effectively address the scientific, diagnostic, and therapeutic ramifications of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and its long-term effects.
The Consortium to Alleviate PTSD (CAP) is a joint VA and DoD effort to understand and treat posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related conditions in active duty military Service Members and Veterans. Its primary objectives are to focus on the advancement of treatment strategies for PTSD and to identify and confirm clinically relevant biomarkers as diagnostic and prognostic indicators of PTSD and comorbid disorders.
The Federal Interagency Traumatic Brain Injury Research (FITBIR) Informatics System was initiated as a collaborative effort supported by the DoD Combat Casualty Care Research Program (CCCRP) and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a secure, centralized informatics system developed to accelerate comparative effectiveness research in support of improved diagnosis and treatment for Service Members and civilians who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
The Injury and Traumatic Stress (INTRuST) Consortium was established to combine the research efforts of leading clinical researchers to bring to market novel treatments or interventions for those who suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and/or traumatic brain injury (TBI). The INTRuST portfolio of clinical research and trials spans psychotherapeutics, pharmacotherapeutics, and devices.
InTBIR is a collaborative effort of the European Commission (EC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the DoD. The goal of InTBIR is to coordinate and leverage clinical research activities on traumatic brain injury (TBI) research and encourage well-designed, hypothesis-driven studies that include the collection of high quality data followed by rigorous statistical analysis.
This NCAA-DoD Grand Alliance; Concussion Assessment, Research, and Education (CARE) Consortium is a prospective, longitudinal, multi-center, multi-sport investigation that delineates the natural history of concussion in both men and women by incorporating a multi-dimensional assessment of standardized clinical measures of post-concussive symptomatology, performance-based testing, genomic variability and risk factors, biomarkers of injury and trajectory of recovery, and psychological health.
As part of the broader $30 million NCAA-DOD Grand Alliance, the Mind Matters Challenge provided funding to various academic institutions to focus on two important areas related to concussion: Changing Attitudes about Concussions in Young and Emerging Adults (a research challenge) and Educational Programs Targeting Young and Emerging Adults (an educational programs challenge). The objective of these challenges is to change the culture of concussion safety in order to better serve student-athletes on the field and Service Members on the battlefield.
